Argentina’s statutory minimum wage was 352,400 pesos a month from 1 March 2026, the most recent figure published by the Consejo Nacional del Empleo when we checked on 8 September 2026. Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs confirms Irish citizens need no visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days, which is not permission to work.

What Irish teachers should know first

Irish citizens do not need a visa to visit Argentina. Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs states there are no visa requirements for Irish citizens travelling to Argentina for tourist purposes, up to 90 days, and Argentina’s Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores sets the same 90-day ceiling on the tourist category for nationals who do need a visa. Your passport should have six months’ validity from the date of entry and one blank page.

That entry is for tourism. It does not entitle you to work, and the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones route that does is demanding in a way most guides skip. To obtain a residencia temporaria as a trabajador migrante, Migraciones requires a pre-contrato laboral signed by both parties that names your duties, the length of the working day, the duration of the employment relationship and the address where you will work; states a wage that conforms to the collective agreement for that sector; and carries the employer’s CUIT tax number. The signatures must be certified by a notary or witnessed by a Migraciones official, and the employer must produce proof of its own registration with the tax authority. You will also need an Argentine criminal record certificate from the Registro Nacional de Reincidencia plus police certificates from any country you have lived in for more than a year during the previous three years. In practice, that is a school with a payroll and paperwork, not a cash-in-hand arrangement.

Pay is the part where we have to be honest about what we can and cannot stand over. Argentina has had very high inflation and repeated changes of currency regime, so any peso figure ages quickly and any euro conversion ages faster. The official table published by the Consejo Nacional del Empleo, la Productividad y el Salario Mínimo, Vital y Móvil showed a Salario Mínimo, Vital y Móvil of 352,400 pesos a month from 1 March 2026, and that was still the latest entry on the Consejo’s own page when we checked it on 8 September 2026. Later increases have been reported in the Argentine press but were not confirmed on the Consejo’s published table on that date, so we are not repeating them here. We also do not publish an audited TEFL salary range for Argentina, because we have not been able to source one to an official body, and we will not carry forward an old figure as though it were current. Nor do we give a euro equivalent: the Argentine peso sits outside European Central Bank reference-rate coverage, so any euro figure would be an unverified approximation, and in Argentina’s case a fast-decaying one. Ask any school for the peso figure, the pay date and whether it is reviewed in line with the collective agreement, and convert on the day.
