Editor’s note

The Hire Wire exists because TEFL job hunting runs on rumour. So we go to the sources: ministry circulars, embassy notices and the programme pages themselves, and we print what they actually say, with the date we checked it. Issue 003 turns that on the least glamorous part of leaving: the Irish forms that decide what you keep, and the Swiss registration clock that starts the day you land. It also says plainly what we could not verify, because a figure we cannot source is a figure we do not print. If a line on this page is wrong, we correct it in place and say so.

Deadline alerts

We will warn you before the window shuts

JET closes in late November or early December. TAPIF opens in November and closes in January. NALCAP has no 2027/28 date published yet. Pick the places you care about and we email you in time to actually apply — nothing else.

Updated 3 September 2026: this panel previously read “JET closes in November” and “NALCAP goes in April”. Neither was carried by the official notice cited for it. JET now matches the programme’s own timeline of October to late November or early December, set by each embassy, and NALCAP matches the board below, which has shown no published 2027/28 date since the window shut on 30 June.

★★★★★

You do not need to be a student to leave a review. If the Hire Wire, our free guides or our team helped you plan your move abroad, that is an experience worth sharing. It takes two minutes and it helps the next teacher decide.

For careers services and schools

Do you advise students who ask about teaching abroad?

There is a page here written for you rather than for students. It sets out how the figures are checked, why the briefing is free, and what we sell — and it carries wording you can paste straight onto a resources page. Careers services, guidance counsellors, students’ unions and department heads all use it.

Free deadline alerts by region are on there too, so nobody in your care finds out about a closing date in February.

Where our money comes from

The TEFL Institute of Ireland sells TEFL qualifications, so we have a commercial interest in readers training with us. We think you should know that before you read a word of it. The openings, salary figures and deadlines on this page come from official programme sources, and none of them depend on you buying anything from us. If a scheme is a poor deal, we say so.

The same standard, applied to us

We check employers at source. Here is how to check us.

Every hiring line on The Hire Wire is verified against the employer, ministry or programme’s own notice. Our own qualifications are held to the same test: Ofqual regulated, awarded by Highfield Qualifications, with the qualification number, the awarding body’s recognition number and our approved centre number all published so you can look them up on a public register.
